Reduced Data Sheet

Official technical document summarizing the essential characteristics of a vehicle, used primarily for the registration of imported vehicles or when original documentation is lost, in accordance with the models established in Royal Decree 750/2010.

How to interpret it

The Reduced Data Sheet is a simplified document containing the main technical data of a vehicle (such as power, mass, dimensions, and fuel type) required for its entry in the Vehicle Registry. Unlike the full technical data sheet, which includes all homologation details, the Reduced Data Sheet focuses on the minimum information required by Spanish regulations to certify the identity and characteristics of the vehicle before the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) or during the Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV). It is particularly relevant for vehicles imported from the European Union or third countries that do not have complete original documentation or that require specific verification of their technical parameters for legalization in Spain.

Example

A driver buys a used vehicle in Germany and brings it to Spain. When attempting to register it, they discover that the original Certificate of Conformity (COC) is incomplete or not directly acceptable by the DGT. To resolve this, they request a Reduced Data Sheet from an authorized body, which verifies the vehicle's data and issues the official document necessary to complete the registration process in Spain.

Why it matters to you

It is a critical document for the legalization and registration of vehicles in Spain, especially in cases of importation or loss of documentation. Without it, it is not possible to complete the vehicle registration with the DGT, which prevents its legal use on public roads.

Common points of confusion

It is frequently confused with the full technical data sheet, which contains more homologation details, and with the Certificate of Conformity (COC), which is a European document certifying that the vehicle meets homologation regulations. The Reduced Data Sheet is a national summary document, whereas the COC is a European homologation certificate. Additionally, it should not be confused with the commercial brand 'Ficha Reducida', which is a company that manages these procedures.
